Frequently asked questions
Do I need Excel or can I use Google Sheets?

Both formats are included in the download. The Google Sheets version includes a direct link to make your own copy — no Google account required beyond the standard one you likely already have. The Excel (.xlsx) version works in Microsoft Excel 2016 or later, LibreOffice Calc, or any modern spreadsheet application. All formulas are compatible across both formats.

Is the template pre-filled with example trades?

Yes — the template includes 10 example trades to illustrate how the journal functions, how the R:R formula works, and what the monthly dashboard looks like with real data. You delete the example rows and start entering your own trades. The dashboard automatically recalculates as you add data.

How do I calculate position size using the template?

The risk management calculator tab has three inputs: account balance, risk percentage per trade, and stop-loss distance in pips. Enter these three values and the template outputs your position size in standard lots, mini lots, and micro lots. It also shows your dollar risk in both absolute terms and as a percentage of your account. The position size cell is linked directly to the journal so you can copy it across into each trade entry.

Is this template suitable for non-forex instruments (indices, commodities, crypto)?

The journal sheet works for any instrument — you can log any trade regardless of asset class. The risk management calculator's pip value assumptions are built for forex majors. For indices or commodities, you will need to manually calculate and enter the dollar risk — the calculator cannot auto-compute pip values for non-forex instruments in its current version. This is noted in the PDF guide with a manual workaround for each instrument type.
