For resting heart rate and sleep, smart rings are often more accurate than wrist-based devices because fingers have denser capillaries and less motion artifact during sleep. For real-time workout tracking they're behind — no GPS, and arm-motion HR capture is harder from a ring than a wrist-worn optical sensor.
Samsung Galaxy Ring, RingConn Gen 2, and Ultrahuman Ring AIR all include lifetime access to their full apps with no subscription. Oura Ring 4 requires a €5.99/month membership for most health insights after the hardware purchase.
All four rings we tested are at least IP68 rated, meaning you can wear them in the shower, pool, or ocean without issue. Ultrahuman and RingConn both go to 100 m depth; Oura and Samsung are rated to 100 m as well. None have a pressure limit stated for diving.
RingConn Gen 2 leads at 10+ days. Oura Ring 4 and Ultrahuman Ring AIR sit at 7–8 days real-world. Samsung Galaxy Ring gets around 6–7 days. Battery life drops noticeably with all sensors on (SpO2 enabled all night adds roughly 15–20% drain).
If sleep and readiness tracking is your primary use case and you want the deepest ecosystem (cycle tracking, illness detection, integrations), Oura is still the benchmark. If you're Samsung-centric or cost-conscious, Galaxy Ring or RingConn close the gap at lower total cost.
Oura Ring 4, RingConn Gen 2, and Ultrahuman Ring AIR work with both iOS and Android. Samsung Galaxy Ring requires a Samsung Galaxy smartphone for full functionality — it will not pair with an iPhone or non-Samsung Android device.
